Cultural Wellness means
to heal from the ravages of historic kidnapping and enslavement, the resulting transgenerational post-trauma scars, and the current day effects of bias. We do this by guarding and restoring knowledge of pre-enslavement values of dignity, community, self-sufficiency, self-governance, ethics, and by succession planning.
The South Florida Council of African Elders is composed of citizens of African descent in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties who are age 62 or greater and who have lived experience of leadership and activism. The Council is supported by a team and by an Advisory Council.
The Council is forever nonsectarian (not governed by, embroiled in, or restricted to any political or religious group). The Council is committed to representing the cultural recovery and wellness needs of Africans in South Florida and Globally, regardless of the country or subculture of immediate origin.
The Council is beyond the influence of money, power, prestige and Eurocentric values, pressures, and norms to affect its position, decisions and advice to the community.
